The Arid Bilge System Series 9 configured as a four zone system was installed by the Captain and First Mate in just four hours. Three way valves were later added as an external changeover between four zones under the living areas and four zones in the machinery spaces. (The software for a series 9 nine zone system was not yet available at the time this unit was built.)
This is our prototype of the Eco Friendly Discharge Companion which was installed in January of 2007. One other previous version was also tested for us by the crew of Baroness. Having 16V92 Detroits for power, oil in the bilge became an accepted fact of life. During October of 2007, two mechanics removed a part off the Port motor. They panicked and apologized to the Captain, stating that they would contain and clean the mess they had created. Captain Kiwi responded: "no worry, you see that box over there", pointing to the Eco Friendly Discharge Companion, "the oil will be in there when you return tomorrow." This seventh generation prototype proved so successful that we now offer it as part of our product line.
Testimonial
As a captain of a 15 year-old boat we found that no matter how often we cleaned the bilges, we would always find a small amount of water, which would never be drained using our Rule bilge system. The main cause for this is the insulation on air conditioning piping fails after a number of years, and condensation finds its way to the bilges. If the crew did not take care of this we would get an odor throughout the boat, which once in the carpet takes a long time to dissipate. So when we were presented with a system that was easy to install, with no electrical parts in the bilges and required minimal maintenance, it was not hard to convince our owner of the advantages. It now gives us more time to take him fishing and make cocktails and spend less time cleaning the bilges when guests are around.
It took the mate and myself about 4 hours to have the system up and running. After six months, we have not have had to touch the system, clean the bilges, or put up with foul odors.
