Dry bow compartments on Hydrodynamic Marine Custom 70' Catamaran: Please scroll down to view the Arid Bilge Installation

The issue > > > four low compartments in the bow storage area that were pocketing water. Because the tight Vee at the bottom of each compartment would leave three inches of water utilizing traditional bilge pumps, the builder tried our new approach. The change was obvious. While raising either of the two access hatches, condensed water would run down the hatches. The air inside the forward storage compartments was usually 100% humid. Today when you raise the hatches, there is no condensed water on the lower side of the hatch. This protects items stored in the forward compartments from mildew, water and condensation damage.

The four compartments were painted after the installation of the Arid Bilge System. Previously, the paint would flake off, now it remains in place.

The one central system pulls water from these four separate compartments.

The low point in this compartment was further aft and because access was so tight, the offset pickup was used as it could be pushed into place without being secured.

This Series 4 unit was installed September 25, 2007 and became the first of four Arid Bilge System units onboard this 70 foot catamaran. Because this type of vessel is highly compartmentalized, twentysix Arid Bilge pickups were utilized to maintain this vessel completely dry.  This first unit moves water from the low pockets above the pontoons and transfers it to the center compartment (chain locker) where an overboard drain is located. No dedicated thru hull was installed for this Arid Bilge System.
