This custom yacht was designed with a hollow internal keel over a racing deep vee hull. The internal keel is segmented into watertight compartments. The bilge pumps failed miserably, leaving over two inches of water in the forward engine room. Water was also trapped under the masterhead, under the salon couch and under the galley. It was nearly immpossible to use a wet dry vac to get into these compartments.
This is the Arid Bilge Systems prototype unit, actually one of several units that were tested aboard this vessel from May of 2000 through October of 2002.. The current prototype shown here was installed in October of 2002 and continues to operate today with minor repairs and upgrades. Three additional copies of this unit were produced and installed on other vessels during 2004-05.
Ending with the stern shot of Thirsty Lady V, a custom 62' yacht powered with 600 HP Mack truck engines and Hamilton Jet drives.
