It is a question about odor. The forward V bilge compartment shown above in the before and after pictures is tucked away under two levels of access hatches. No wonder the owner didn't know about it and had paid the vacu-flush head techs $1500.00 two weeks earlier to get the head odor out of the boat. They failed. The Arid Bilge System unit maintains this and two other compartments bone dry and the cabin now has a neutral odor.
Before, the engine room keel sump had a small amount of water and bilge slime. Note the diaphragm pump pickup, Diaphragm pumps can bring the residual bilge water levels down to 1/4" to 1/2" when used in the manual mode. In the automatic mode, the diaphragm pump still depends on the traditional float switch leaving 1 to 2 inches of water in the bilge. The Arid Bilge System maintains this and two other compartments 100% dry.
Here are the before and after pictures of the rudder compartment. A small amount of water covers a wide area. At three o'clock in the afternoon, this poorly vented compartment can reach temps near 120 degrees Fahrenheit, causing accelerated evaporation of the residual bilge water. At sunset, the air cools rapidly, passing dew point, and everything in the compartment gets wet and slimy. The steering cylinder needs to be changed repeatedly, as the shaft gets coated, and then cleaned by the seals as the steering is used.

The Arid Bilge System Series 4 three zone system was installed in the Port aft corner of the engine room April 30, 2007. The entire installation took five hours.
